起了去新西蘭的念頭是在2008年的夏天，本來2008年的計劃是去西藏的，沒想到由於政局的問題只好暫時擱置，然後，汶川的地震，泰國的旅行限制，哎。。。好像亞太地區風景優美的地方都不能去了哎。。。於是把目標轉向了大洋洲，本來挺想去澳洲的，可是LG去過了，興趣不大，於是在網上到處亂翻，新西蘭就在這個時候跳了出來，壯美的自然景觀，相對較小的地域(2007年在新疆旅游的時候飽受地域太大的苦惱，從一個景點到另一個景點怎麼也得五六個小時)，哇！可以自駕哎！在這樣的風景中駕車穿行該是怎樣一種愜意哦…好！就他了。在MSN上問了同樣喜歡到處游走的同學L夫婦，哈，一拍即合！他們也剛被電視裡的新西蘭介紹片吊到了胃口。於是2009年初的新西蘭自駕游就這樣拍板定了下來。
接下來說說准備工作吧，這可是歷次旅游中准備時間最長的，前後差不多半年時間，雖然頭三個月只是漫無目的的在網上翻看一些游記。其實自由行最有意思的應該就是准備功略了，對一個地方從完全陌生，然後從各種游記，攻略中漸漸的具體起來，到開始制定自己的行程，到最後真正的身臨其境中，其實是很有成就感的。
簽證篇：
強烈建議自己送簽！尤其是夫婦出游的，一個家庭690人民幣！要知道旅行社可是按人頭算錢的，一個人1300-1600，資料還得你自己准備，簡直是搶錢哦！！！（後話：簽證出來後我跟L同學討論了開代理簽證公司的可能性…）

Tips：（我們是在上海辦的簽證）
1．親屬關系公證不需要，我們為此曾經困擾了很久，在拜讀了多篇簽證攻略後最終決定不辦，結果證明前輩們的指引是正確及明智的。
2．除了駕照的英文公證，其他證明包括戶口本，結婚證都不需要公證，直接給他們原件就好，我們碰到的簽證官都是中國人。
3．旺季簽證一定要早，以出簽日期的三個月為入境有效期，入境後可以在新西蘭境內停留一個月。我們的計劃2009年1月18日出發，到11月初才交的簽證申請，由於碰到了旺季，差不多10個工作日才出簽，以致於在機票上吃了虧（詳見機票篇）。

機票篇：
關於定機票，就一個字，“早”
一定一定一定要早，尤其是在旺季。
其實自從定下1月要去新西蘭，一直在關注機票的問題，最理想的當然是新西蘭航空的直飛啦，九月份開始差不多天天看，當時優惠機票的價格是到11月底出發的，九千多含稅，1月份的價格含稅差不多一萬出頭一點（現在想起來真應該早點出手啊），心態有點不平衡，問了幾家旅行社，都說過年的折扣機票差不多要到11月初才出來。既然這樣，等等吧。。。沒想到啊沒想到，到11月初，非但沒有折扣機票的出現，反而來了一個“漲停板”,一周之內從原來的一萬出頭漲到了一萬兩千多。由於簽證速度慢，我們錯過了原來預定的新西蘭航空的最後出票日，於是只好在簽證出來之後再到處找機票，最後通過一家代理定了國泰的，行程及價格如下：

新西蘭的國內段我們定了Air Qantas的Auckland-Christchurch往返，162nzd/人
Tips:
1．一定要早！！！！！尤其在旺季並且碰到今年新西蘭幣大跌的年頭（從去年的1:5.9到最近我預訂活動的時候算下來差不多1:3.5）, 哎。。。轉念想想在新西蘭的活動住宿租車吃飯都省了不少，算了。
2．我們從上海出發，主要考慮的就新西蘭航空和國泰航空，總體來說，國泰要比新西蘭便宜1000-2000，但是新西蘭航空的時間比較好，直飛省去轉機的麻煩，而且都是跨夜的，省去了兩晚住宿的費用，對行程的安排來說比較實惠。其他的航空公司從上海出發的還有新加坡航空（在新加坡轉機），澳洲航空（在墨爾本轉機），馬來西亞航空（在吉隆坡轉機），網上查到的價格都比新西蘭和國泰的貴，所以都沒有考慮。
3．另一撥1月14號出發的同學定到港龍+國泰的差不多一萬一張（含稅），不過她們是冒著危險在簽證未出的情況下先出機票的。

Twin為雙床房，Double為大床房，Ensuite是有洗手間的。沒有Ensuite的話就是公用洗澡和廁所。不是所有的YHA都有帶Enuite的房型，而且要定帶Ensuite的房間也一定要早，早兩個月都不算早的，我就是早兩個月訂的，有的也已經被訂掉了。還有YHA的住宿網上預訂都是直接扣款的，網址https://www.yha.co.nz/，如果要做Reservation要一家一家打電話或發郵件定，每家YHA都有自己的網址。

1.目前已經預定的有，Helihike,據說這個比較熱門。Milfordsound Scenic Crusie, Real Journey的網上預訂有15%折扣。黑深淵之旅，Legendary的網上預訂有10%的折扣，其他的就打算到那裡再訂了。
2.原來定了Routeburn的one day guided track,後來退掉了，打算自己走。Routeburn的和Milford Sound的track,如果是one day walk不用他們的Hut是不用預訂的，Routeburn Shelter有個很大的停車場，可以直接開車到那裡，考慮到導游的介紹我們也聽不太懂，所以決定自己走。看了DOC網上的介紹，Milford Sound的track一天內走不到風景太好的地方，而Routeburn的一天內可以走到Routeburn Fall,景色還不錯，所以選擇Routeburn track,雖然難度要比Milford Sound的高，反正也是打算走到哪裡算哪裡，自由行嘛，關鍵是自由，哈哈！
3.其實計劃的這些沒有打算所有的都參加，主要是考慮到有些活動可能由於天氣原因會無法進行，比如Helihike,而我們的行程也沒有辦法等所以有一些backup還是必要的，預算是每人大約1000nzd的活動費，比如說如果Helihike飛上了，熱汽球就打算放棄了，Jetboat也打算在Taupo或Queenstown當中挑一個。Quad Bike更是萬一Helihike不了，在Franz Josef Glacier沒有別的事情可做的話的backup方案，反正多做些准備總沒有壞處啊。
